Pat Butcher(ed)

15 Aug

Post man Pat has had his van butchered. One of my regular cameos is road vehicles with open doors, be it a car door or an open back to a van or lorry. Aimed more at Eskmuir than Kirkmellington, I have nearly completed two more specials. For Pat, we have an Austin J2 van, now with rear door open for all those mail bags to be loaded off the West Coast parcels. For BR Bob, we now have a Morris J van in BR maroon with rear doors open for general parcels, newspapers or fresh fish. The driver is waiting patiently while his mate loads up. Rear glazing, toning down of gloss paint and mild weathering will complete the work.

Small modifications, but of the kind that add life to otherwise bog-standard items. These really will make a difference to a scene where they are deployed.

It’s always the little details that bring layouts to life and I am always on the look out for other people’s gems that I can replicate or adapt. It makes our creations a little less toy train and more scale model hopefully.
