Research and Development

We have come across a wonderful book giving much insight and research fodder into the mines and workings around Ayrshire and Waterside. The book is ‘Mining, Ayrshire’s Lost Industry: An Illustrated History of the Mines and Miners of Ayrshire and Upper Nithsdale’ by Guthrie Hutton, isbn 187207488x

The size and type of buildings we have chosen from the basic web searches appears to be a reasonable match and we now have some extra ideas to explore for the remaining buildings. One aspect that we will be deploring further is the mixing of drift workings with a shaft mine as many of the smaller mines appear to be Such a Combination and have plenty of narrow gauge tracks running into the slurry & screen buildings from neighbouring hills.

it has certainly proved a worthwhile purchase and looks to be Many nights of avid reading going forward.
