Brickwork apprentice

22 Sep

Trials have been undertaken this week in getting a palette of colours to match the local brickwork in the Ayrshire area. A recent fact finding tour of Ayrshire and Dunaskin has yielded a selection of prototype buildings on which we can base our models.

the first two structures are both Hornby “ready to plant” yard buildings which are a quick and easy solution for Kirkmellington. With subtle changes, these are good models that will find a home near the loco shed, one as a yard hut and the larger as the Weighbridge hut.

A six colour paint process has been used with Railmatch (dark rust and brake dust) and Lifecolour acrylics (warm wood shades). Mortar joints and moss tints come from the Modelmates  range. A coat of Railmatch acrylic matt varnish seals it all together.
