Super Grass

30 Dec

Since Boxing Day, I have had use of the Rochdale MRG static Grass applicator. It is the full spec version by Noch. This is the first time I have tried static grass so was unsure what to expect. The advice was to build up in layers so the first was glued onto the base of woodland Scenics fine turf flock and Green Scene coarse grass using diluted PVA. The static grass steel pin was then held in the PVA. The applicator had been loaded with a blend of fibres, from 2mm to 6mm long from Noch and Anita Decor. I am aiming for a late summer, early autumn look so used dark green and yellow / straw as the main colour with just a hint of light green. The applicator was shaken vigorously over the target area until a thick layer had fallen on the glue.

Once dry, I removed the surplus with a brush and vac. Some areas were thick and springy, others looked flat. To these I added a second layer using hairspray and these are now thick and lush in appearance. For added depth, I added some flower meadow mix from Green Scene in small quantities along with their stalks in the pond & ditch areas.

Overall, I am quite impressed with this new (to me) technology. Next up is the water.
