Coming to the boil

29 Jan

Following up my post on 21st August “tanks-a-lot-you-old-boiler” the colliery shed water tank has now been completed. Water inlet pipeworks, overflow valve and outlet hose and chain have been added long with a coat of dirty black with rust. This portrays the common colliery practise of recycling (and we think its a new thing to save the earth) old boilers by hoisting up onto a stillage as a header tank. I would have preferred a torpedo shaped tank but could not source one so the Bachmann boiler load had to do. The inlet pipe is brass tube wrapped with 2mm masking the for the lagging. Knighwing valves have been added with fine brass hand wheels. The discharge hose is heat shrink wire coating.

The diesel tank is also now finished. A Unit Models resin casting, this has been mounted on new brick pillars and had inlet pipe & coupling added plus a discharge hose. The pipes are brass wire with a washer on the end. The discharge hose is again heat shrink wire coating. The only thing left to add is a level gauge.
