Time for a brake

19 Mar

No, not another modelling holiday nor a Kit-Kat but completing a task on my RT Models Hudson Tipper rake.

The eagle eyed visitors to our previous exhibitions will have noticed the rake were not fitted with brakes or levers of any description. Such was the rush to get them built and my decision that the brake gear was best added after painting, that this final task went unfinished.
As we approach a season of bigger shows, with the BRM festival of London Modelling this month and then Railex Aylesbury in May, I found the impetus necessary to revisit the wagons and finish them off.
The main brake gear is a fold up etch that threads into the chassis to which is then added the linkage rod and brake lever. For the headstocks, there is a fold up etch for the hanger by which you can pin down the lever (I’ve no idea what’s called, as you tell!!).

So a big hole under the wagons is now filled despite me missing out a few bits but with paint and weathering added, it seems to look good to my eye.
